Illiteracy in the Muslim World

Sunday, Oct 27, 2013 @ 06:30 PM

Organized By: Tarbiyah School

Islamic Society of Delaware (ISD) invite you to a forum on "Illiteracy in the Muslim World - Understanding the Challenges and our Role".

Guest Speaker:
Dr. Nazir A. Sangi - President and Vice Chancellor, Allama Iqbal Open University, Islamabad, Pakistan

Muslim countries such as Pakistan suffer from challenges of chronic illiteracy. Many national and international efforts have yielded little success for mass education of the future generations.

Allama Iqbal Open University is a public university in Pakistan that is noted as being one of the world's largest institution of higher learning with an annual enrollment of approximately 1.5 Million students in Pakistan, the Middle East, the Central Asia, and the Eastern Africa. The university has recently launched a project to establish schools for elementary and middle school education throughout Pakistan. The aim is to enroll one million elementary school students in the first year. As exciting as the project may sound, there are many technical, financial and resource challenges that the university must overcome.

Dr. Nazir Sangi is a resident scholar at Islamic Society of Delaware this weekend to share his insights into how he is leading this challenging and monumental task.

We welcome you to attend this exciting presentation, understand the issues and share your ideas for solving one of the major issues of our times.
